‘Resident Evil’ Live-Action Series: Netflix Release Date & What We Know So Far
After the success of the live-action Resident Evil films starring Milla Jovovich that apparently ended with the Final Chapter, and last year’s middling but still faithful to the games Resident Evil: Welcome To Racoon City, it seems you can never keep a good (bad) organization down.
The Umbrella Corporation and the undead will be shuffling onto Netflix sooner than expected: July 14th, 2022.
Commissioned so far for one season the episodes will drop all at once for the ultimate horror binge-watch of eight one-hour episodes. The first two are directed by Bronwen Hughes of The Walking Dead and Constantin Film is producing the show.
Resident Evil Series Plot:
Fourteen years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by infected creatures while being haunted by her past, her father, and what happened to her sister, Billie. They move to New Racoon City to uncover past secrets and what their father is truly hiding.
Yes, Albert Wesker is back and badder than ever.
There have been two teaser trailers released – the first featuring a stark contrast track “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing, and sees what appears to be two alternate timelines – 2022 New Racoon City, and London, 2036, intriguingly both ties into each other – oh, and there are zombies. Lots of zombies.
We also got to see an iconic Resident Evil monster in the Cerberus hound, and the Umbrella Corp working on a new “Joy” miracle drug, infused with the infamous T-Virus.
Resident Evil Series Cast:
In a welcome change, iconic actor Lance Reddick (Fringe, John Wick) will play Albert Wesker, and he certainly has the range to bring menace and fatherly love in equal measure.
He will be joined by Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph and Paola Nunez.
Andrew Dabb (Supernatural), will be the showrunner.
In a statement Dabb said, ‘Resident Evil is my favorite game of all time. I’m incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first-ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world. For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before.’
As well as Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, an animated series already on Netflix, this is a good time to be a Resi fan. I’ll approach with an open mind and am confident it will at least bring something fresh and new to the franchise.
