Fury Road Director’s ‘Three Thousand Years Of Longing’ Trailer Features a Genie and Tilda Swinton

While we wait for the follow up to Mad Max Fury Road, Furiosa – director George Miller is up to mad bastard stuff and we love it. His next film titled Three Thousand Years of Longing is a visionary and beautiful tale of a woman and her Djinn.
To be more precise it is about Tilda Swinton and her Genie played by Idris Elba. Everything in this film is absolutely popping out of the frame. In what looks to be a cautionary and ultimately, uplifting tale.
The official synopsis for Three Thousand Years of Longing goes like this:
Dr Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic – content with life and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.
I’m already fascinated with the fairy tale stylings of this one. It looks to be a total modern day fairy tale and, I’m very much in love with that.
We can’t wait to see what Tilda wishes for when Three Thousand Years of Longing arrives in theaters Aug. 31.
