The Tom Cruise-led long-anticipated sequel “Top Gun: Maverick” pulled in a massive $19.3 million in previews on Thursday afternoon/night.
That’s the highest-grossing preview haul in Paramount Pictures history and the highest-grossing Memorial Day preview in history. It also blows away the $6 million previews of the Cruise-led “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” back in 2018.
Industry projections earlier this week suggested the film is on track for an opening of over $100 million over the next four days – making it the best weekend opening ever for Cruise.
Helping it along is the fact that the film is riding an astonishing wave of buzz with a 97% critics and 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Also opening is “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” which garnered $1.5 million in previews and is tracking for a $10-14 million four-day launch.
